Celebrating Another Successful Year at the Awards Banquet

September 27th, 2023 - Oshawa, ON. The Oshawa Kicks were very proud to host the annual Competitive Awards Banquet for our U13-U18 competitive teams this past weekend.

Coach Rick was joined by Leila H. and Martina M. from our 2007 Girls to host the awards ceremony. All three of them did a terrific job throughout the evening. 

We would also like to congratulate all of our 2023 All Academic Award winners. They did an incredible job balancing soccer and school throughout the season. We are proud of their achievements on and off the field. 

Each team's Head Coach was also responsible for naming a Team Ambassador. The Team Ambassador is an individual who exemplifies the qualities of our club’s culture, is a leader on and off the pitch and supports the goals of the team annually. The 2023 Team Ambassadors are listed below: 

2010 Boys - Victor Ramirez

2009 Boys - Liam Went

2008 Boys - Parker Piels

2008 Girls - Amelia Antonelli

2007 Girls - Nadine El-Khatib and Nalani Medford

2006 Boys - Max Yarranton and Eric Kurhan

2005 Girls - Rory Cowling-McDonnell

2005 Boys - Jaden Grant

Congratulations to all of our Team Ambassadors, we are honoured to have you all representing the club!

We also wanted to celebrate our 2006 Boys team. They were selected as the winners of the annual Competitive Excellence Award.

The 2006 Boys were chosen as the Club's team of the year after an extremely successful season.

Finishing first place in the U17 IModel Qualifying Group.

U17-U18 Boys Red division champions at the 2023 Frank Sobil Spring Classic.

2023 New York City Cup champions, gaining entry into the Desert Super Cup in Arizona.

The final award of the evening was the Volunteer Excellence Award. Julie Bastin was the recipient of the 2023 Volunteer Excellence Award.

Julie has been involved with the Club for ten years and she is currently the Team Manager for the 2008 Boys. She is exceptionally organized and works diligently to meet deadlines.

Julie is an essential member to the 2008 Boys, playing a pivotal role in the planning and execution of another great season.

Additionally, the Club took a moment to recognize the successes of our graduating teams, the 2005 Boys and 2005 Girls.

  • Four original players together since 2015
  • First place in the 2016 DRSA Competitive League
  • 2018 Challenge Cup champions
  • 2019 and 2022 Team of the Year Award winners
  • 2021 CSL League champions
  • 2022 IModel Division One champions
  • 2023 Frank Sobil Spring Classic champions

 

Here is a summary of the Oshawa Kicks 2005 Girls graduating team:

  • Five original players together since 2013
  • All players were All Academic Award winners from 2019-2023
  • Seven players signed with Universities/Colleges
  • 2018 and 2022 Team of the Year Award winners
  • 2019 Coach of the Year - Geneva Winterink
  • 2021 Top Rated Challenge Cup champions
  • 2022 Frank Sobil Spring Classic champions
  • 2023 Frank Sobil Spring Classic champions

Lastly, the Club hosted a food drive on behalf of the Simcoe Hall Settlement House at the Awards Banquet. Our senior competitive families donated a tremendous amount of food items to help some of the less fortunate families in our community. 

The 2023 Competitive Awards Banquet was a huge success! We would like to thank everyone for attending and we are looking forward to celebrating another successful season in 2024!
