November 5th, 2022 - Vaughan ON. The Oshawa Kicks 2005 Boys team captured the I-Model U17 Boys Division 1 League Championship over the weekend defeating Glen Shields by a score of 4-3.
Entering the match Saturday evening, Oshawa was sporting a league best record of 14-2-4 for a total of 44 points while their counterparts, Glen Shields, came in with a record of 13-2-5 good for 41 points and second place in league standings. The top two teams played in a single elimination match to determine the league champion.
The teams had split the regular season series each taking a win with a combined aggregate score of 7-5 in favour of Oshawa. That momentum continued into the final match as Oshawa was able to pull out the victory in a hard fought, back and forth match securing the league title in penalty kicks!
Oshawa was led offensively by an impressive collection of players finishing in the top 10 in league scoring. Those players include:
- Caleb C. - 12 Goals - 5th in league scoring
- Calem M. - 10 Goals - Tied for 6th in league scoring
- David B. - 9 Goals - Tied for 8th in league scoring
- Jaden F. - 9 Goals - Tied for 8th in league scoring
- Nicholas C. - 8 Goals - Tied for 10th in league scoring
- Elijah C. - 8 Goals - Tied for 10th in league scoring
Other goal scorers included Jaden G. (6), Jordan S. (6), Brady L. (4), Steven J. (4), Sohum G. (2), Tayven M. (2), Evan R. (1) and Lorenzo C. (1).
Lorenzo C. also posted a league leading 11 shutouts over the course of the season, almost doubling the amount of shutouts from the player in 2nd place.
